The Denver Hospice is the region’s leading, largest and most trusted nonprofit provider of life-enhancing hospice and palliative care. That means we offer more expertise, more resources and a more complete continuum of compassionate care to patients facing life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life transition. That means our patients and their families get more from life.

We believe in more. Read our belief statements.

As we have lead the industry in innovative care for four decades, we have always been driven by the belief that hospice and palliative care is not about losing life, but adding to it. Our nationally recognized, best-practice model of personalized care supports mind, body and spirit, giving our patients and their families control over their lives with dignity, joy, compassion and unparalleled experience and support.

For forty years, our mission and our services have made us unique.

Our mission-driven commitment puts patients above profit and translates to more time, attention and experts dedicated to every person who needs our services, wherever and whenever they need us.

We have had 40 years of incredible support from our community, employees, volunteers, donors, medical partners, social workers and counselors and other mission-driven organizations.

We have a million reasons to be proud of what we’ve accomplished thus far. Read some of the things that make us unique.

A look back at how it all began.

In 1978, our founders — Carolyn Jaffe, RN and Peter Van Arsdale, PhD — recognized the need for comprehensive, expert and collaborative care for those facing aging, serious illness and grief. They assisted us in securing initial funding and laying the groundwork for us to become what we are today — an innovative, compassionate and comprehensive nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization.

The Denver Hospice has grown significantly over the past 40 years. We now serve nearly 4,000 hospice and 2,000 palliative care patients and their families every year in nine metropolitan Denver counties, from Boulder to Castle Rock and from Golden to Bennett. We provide care in our patients’ homes, our state-of-the-art inpatient care center, retirement communities, skilled nursing homes and other locations where our skills are needed.

Our staff has grown from three to more than 300. We also have one of the largest volunteer programs in Colorado. Our volunteers contribute thousands of hours every year, which translates into additional services for our patients and their families. Volunteers help with patient visits, caregiver respite, integrative therapy services and more.

It is such an exciting year for The Denver Hospice. Throughout the year, we intend to take time to reflect on our past, celebrate our accomplishments and position ourselves for the future so that we can assist our community’s growing aging population.
