A Night of Kujali

A Night of “Kujali” (Caring in Swahili) will honor Lisa Motz-Storey, heart of the Selian initiative for more than 14 years.

Since 2001, The Denver Hospice has partnered with Selian Lutheran Hospice in Arusha, Tanzania. Our partnership has helped Selian grow from a small home hospice program to a comprehensive hospice and palliative care program that at one point in 2015, served over 5,000 patients. But, due to falling HIV infection rates in that region, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) has discontinued its support for local HIV/ AIDS programs. Without that funding, Selian has had to make deep cuts to its program and staff and can now only serve a fraction of the patients they once did. The Denver Hospice is currently their only funder, and we are serving as a “bridge” until major funding can again be secured. The need is urgent as there is no other organization providing hospice care in this area.

We need your help now more than ever. Money raised at this event will help purchase medication for patients, support orphans and vulnerable children, pay salaries of the small professional staff, buy fuel for vehicles to reach patients, and provide food aid to the poorest of their patients.  Just the simple act of attending or making a donation will have a positive impact on the lives of hospice patients and families in Tanzania.

The 2017 Christopher’s Angel Fund 7th Annual Poker Run was a huge success thanks to all our riders, volunteers and donors. Event organizer, Susan Dane, said “We raised more than $13,000 in direct gifts and door prizes and had 126 riders! Our community came out and showed how much hospice care matters.”

Heroes & Halos…A Tribute to Veterans

Thank you to all who attended the inaugural Heroes & Halos…A Tribute to Veterans. Thank you to our generous sponsors. Each of you helped make the event a wonderful and successful night.

The Denver Hospice is committed to offering a hospice experience that honors and celebrates the fulfillment of life. And for our Veterans, we take special care to offer each the dignity, respect and ceremony they deserve. To affirm their sacrifices and remind them in their last days, that they and their service have not been forgotten and their stories deserve to be preserved.

We are proud to be recognized with a 4 star rating in the National We Honor Veterans program. This program ensures each veteran is appreciated and has access to quality end-of-life care. Veterans often have unique needs and we provide specialized support by addressing their physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs to improve quality of life.
