Spreading Mother’s Day Joy: The Denver Hospice Team Creates Handmade Cards for Senior Communities

Volunteers and staff come together in Denver to celebrate and honor mothers through meaningful community connection

Team members and volunteers from The Denver Hospice recently came together for a heartfelt community initiative—creating handmade Mother’s Day cards for residents in senior living communities throughout the Denver area.

The event brought together Community Liaisons and volunteers who spent time crafting personalized cards filled with messages of appreciation, gratitude, and love. Each card was thoughtfully designed to recognize and celebrate the mothers who have made a lasting impact on families and communities.

Supporting Senior Communities Through Connection
These handmade cards will be delivered during the first week of May, just ahead of Mother’s Day, helping to bring joy and connection to residents in local senior communities. Initiatives like this highlight the importance of meaningful engagement and emotional support for older adults, particularly those in long-term care settings.

As a trusted provider of hospice and palliative care in the Denver area, The Denver Hospice is committed to supporting not only patients and families, but also the broader community through acts of compassion and connection.

A Special Visit from a DogTor Volunteer
The card-making event also included a special guest appearance from Ollie, one of The Denver Hospice’s beloved DogTor volunteers. Therapy animals like Ollie play an important role in bringing comfort, companionship, and smiles to patients, families, and staff alike—and his visit added an extra layer of joy to the day.

A Mission Rooted in Compassion
At its core, this initiative reflects The Denver Hospice’s mission to provide care that goes beyond clinical support. By fostering moments of connection and kindness, the organization helps ensure that individuals in senior communities feel remembered, appreciated, and celebrated.

Through the combined efforts of staff and volunteers, simple gestures—like a handwritten card—can create lasting impact and brighten someone’s day in meaningful ways.
