The Denver Hospice Hosts 11th Hour Training for Volunteers

At The Denver Hospice, volunteers are an essential part of our mission to provide compassionate care and support to patients and families facing serious illness and the end of life. Recently, we welcomed a new group of dedicated volunteers to our 11th Hour Training program, preparing them to serve in one of hospice care's most meaningful roles.

11th Hour Volunteers provide a compassionate presence for patients who may be in the final days or hours of life. Through specialized training, volunteers learn about the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that often occur at the end of life, as well as how to offer comfort and support to both patients and their loved ones.

Whether sitting quietly at a bedside, reading aloud, listening, or simply being present, these volunteers help ensure that no one faces the end of life alone. Their presence can provide comfort to patients and peace of mind to families during a deeply personal and emotional time.

The training also emphasizes active listening, communication skills, cultural sensitivity, volunteer boundaries, and self-care—important tools that help volunteers navigate this meaningful work with confidence and compassion.

We are grateful to everyone who participated in this recent training and for their commitment to serving our community. Their willingness to share their time, compassion, and presence embodies the very heart of hospice care.

Thank you to our newest 11th Hour Volunteers for choosing to make a difference when it matters most.
