A Day of Community and Meaning at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Saturday’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Denver’s City Park brought thousands of people together around a shared purpose: supporting people living with Alzheimer’s disease and the families and caregivers who walk alongside them.

The Denver Hospice was honored to be part of the day, joining community members, organizations and advocates who gathered to show their support.

But for our team, one of the most meaningful parts of the morning happened at our booth.

Throughout the event, people stopped by to talk with our team and share personal stories about The Denver Hospice. They told us about the care their loved ones received, the support their families experienced and the ways our hospice team made a difference during some of their most difficult moments.

Some simply wanted to say thank you.

One TDH employee said: “I heard from spouses, daughters, sons and even neighbors of patients that The Denver Hospice cared for and felt they could have not done it with our team. They spoke of our CNAs being gentle with their mom, social workers facilitating respite, chaplains sitting down with their father with an open heart, nurses walking through the death process to ease worries and after-hours teams coming at 11pm to help with pain crises.”

Those conversations were a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of hospice care.

Our work is centered on caring for patients and supporting their families during an incredibly important chapter of their lives. But the impact of that care can extend far beyond the time we spend with them. The compassion, dignity and support provided by hospice become part of a family’s story — memories they carry with them.

That made the conversations at our booth especially meaningful. On a day devoted to community, we were reminded that The Denver Hospice is not simply an organization serving the Denver community. We are part of that community, and the people we have cared for and their families are part of our story, too.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who stopped by Saturday to share a story, a memory or a word of appreciation. Hearing firsthand what The Denver Hospice has meant to families is one of the greatest affirmations of the work our employees do every day.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your stories — and for reminding us, on a beautiful day centered around community, just how meaningful those connections can be.
